depreciation
As a rule, the commercial value of equipment declines over time. A ten-year-old computer could be worth less than the network cable it plugs into. The network connection is still current technology but the computer is obsolete. A celebrity-branded miniature grill that once sold for $80 might sell for $4 now that the promotional campaign is forgotten. The parlor organ fad is over, so if you have a parlor organ, you might have to pay someone to haul it away. Used copies of bestselling books go unsold at $1 after just a few years. Avoid the mistake of remembering what you paid for an item and thinking that has any connection to its current value.
