first steps

One way to get your life back under control is to address the shortcomings that most affect the world outside first. For example, you would clean up the front yard, then the front porch, then the living room. Another way is to start with the problems that present the most immediate problems for your day-to-day functioning. You would make sure you have a good place to sleep, then that you can cook and eat, then that you can wash up. Only after those basics were taken care of would you make sure you can take out the trash and that you can walk down the hall without tripping over anything.
